General Guidance and Safety notes for Surf Classic traditional Single Skin Marine Plywood Body Boards General Guidance notes for using Body Boards
The Surf Classic products are built to a high standard and we expect them to perform exactly as the 1962 originals giving a service life of 20+ years.
This product is Not a Flotation Aid. This Body Board with decreasing radius is manufactured by us utilising the original 1962 Steam Pressing
process, the original bending equipment and the best priming and finishing products available to us at this time.
They faithfully replicate the boards as originally produced by Anne and Ken Briereley for sale and hire from their Crantock workshop and Café premises, the boards where later improved by Sue and John Dennett from their home “Higher Moor” also in Crantock North Cornwall to become the “Surf Classic” long bodyboard and “Surf Glider” short body board we currently manufacture.
As we have no control whatsoever as to how and where this product is liable to be used and the many variables and resulting risks associated with open water activities.
We can accept no liability for injury or loss of life resulting from its use.
The RNLI: have a useful set of Guidance Notes relating to Body Boarding these can be found on their website however these notes relate to more modern foam construction BodyBoards so exercise caution in your interpretation when considering using traditional marine plywood Boards which are Not a Flotation aid.
Before venturing into any open water activities, we advise: –
- Only participate on LifeGuard Patrolled sections of beach
- Only participate between flags or in the designated section advised by the patrol
- Be aware of messages being given from the beach patrol as they are constantly monitoring the changing tidal conditions.

- Always discuss your activity with the local LifeGuard and beach patrol and take their guidance and advice.
- None of the above constitute a full risk assessment this is the sole responsibility of the user or supervisor at the time of use.
