As a general rule at the end of the season your board will be carrying the scars of contact with beach material and the surface will have light abrasions.

Before commencing please refer to the manufacturers Product Safety Data sheets with attention in particular to Skin Contact, Inhalation of vapours, Product and vapour Flash points and the need for suitable ventilation and other specific risks as provided in the data sheets.

  1. Ensure your board is de-greased of wax, Sun block products etc. and rub down gently with fine grade wet and dry paper minimum 400 grit ensuring paper is always wet.
  2. Work in sympathy with the grain and carefully over embellishments and logos as these can easily be marked.
  3. Wash off with clean water and leave to dry.
  4. Once dry Apply a coat of suitable oil based varnish, we advise using the same brand as applied during manufacture in all cases this would be Coovar Yacht and Seaplane Grade Varnish manufactured by Teal and Mackrill, www.teamac.co.uk

To restore the integrity of the protective coating for Professional Polyurethane finished boards (see build sheet for final treatment details of your specific board).

Unless you are qualified in applying two pack coatings and have access to the correct equipment and ventilation systems this can only be carried out by a professional third party.

Your Board is finished with clear P101 2 pack Polyurethane Coating we advise using the same brand as applied during manufacture in all cases this would be manufactured by Teal and Mackrill.

Flat and in conditions without large temperature and humidity fluctuations.

The high-grade Lloyds registered 9mm 6Ply board is easily damaged by point impact so please store accordingly.

General Guidance notes for using Body Boards

The Surf Classic products are built to a high standard and we expect them to perform exactly as the 1962 originals.

This product is Not a Flotation Aid

 This product is a manufactured utilising the original 1962 Steam Press and Bending equipment and the best priming products and finishes available to us at this time to faithfully replicate the “Surf Classic” board as originally produced by Ken and Anne Briereley and later by Sue and John Dennett from their home in Crantock North Cornwall.

The RNLI have a useful set of Guidance Notes relating to Body Boarding these can be found on their website however these notes relate to more modern foam construction Body Boards so exercise caution in your interpretation when considering using traditional marine plywood Boards which are Not a Flotation aid.

  • Only participate between flags or in the designated section advised by the patrol
